In the EPA document, The topic 1.2 mention:
1.2 If a total analysis of the waste demonstrates that individual analytes are not present in the waste, or that they are present but at such low concentrations that the appropriate regulatory levels could not possibly be exceeded, the TCLP need not be run.
Sodium polyacrylate is preliminary made from Carbon, Oxygen, Hydrogen and Sodium. Since none of those element are toxic element, we interpreted that TCLP is not required.Here is a study that is shown on the US department of Energy that show the SAP could be efficient to retain radio-active waste. This research could inspire that SAP would also be efficient to retain element that would normally the present in the leachage.
My opinion say that the usage of SAP should retain toxic element and allow to get good result on a TCLP test when it is required (when toxic element are present in the liquid that have to be absorbed)
